Funeral Services Entrusted To:
E. Pamela Small Funeral Services

She was the mother of Gary Spencer Johnson of Burtonsville, Maryland and Tracey Suzanne Johnson-Austin, deceased.

Tracey was married to Timothy Austin and together they had her only grandchild, Taya Avrielle Pearl Austin of Trents. Both of her parents are deceased: Horace Gerard Scantlebury, her dad, was born in Hope Road, St. Lucy, but grew up in Brooklyn, New York where he met and married Estelle Jones.

They had three children: Bobby Scantlebury, deceased, Gail, and Richard Scantlebury, her cherished younger brother now resident with his wife Rose in Bradenton Fla. She had sisters, adopted sisters: Carmen Williams, Gloria Goodridge deceased, late of Freeport, Bahamas, Audrey Howell and Margaret Shelman of Richmond, Virginia USA. Gillian Howell was a friend that stuck closer than a sister.

Her natural nephews, are Guy Scantlebury, Andre Scantlebury and Erik Scantlebury. Together with all her loving relatives and friends at home and abroad, and those who called her Auntie Gail and Sis J, we weep today and in one giant embrace we mourn the passing of our beloved: but joy comes in the morning.

A service of praise and thanksgiving to celebrate the life of Gail Aurelia Johnson, takes place on Thursday, 30th May, 2024 at 1.00 p. m, at Mile and a Quarter Seventh Day Adventist Church, Hopeland, St. Peter. • The Scantlebury family would like to send our condolences to the family and all loved ones.

  • I was extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Johnson. I first met her when we worked together at the East Caribbean Conference of SDA – she was the Secretary to the President and I worked in the ABC. Later, as I served as the conference Treasurer, she was the Treasurer for the Gardens SDA church and we developed an even greater friendship. On my visits home to Barbados, I would occasionally call or visit with her and Mr. Johnson and these were wonderful memories. She would always give good, positive advice and served as a mentor. I will miss her contagious laughter. Rest in peace dear friend! From St. Clair Dottin (former Treasurer, ECC of SDA)

  • Condolences to her family and friends, also to my cousin Timothy on the passing of your mother in law. May she R I P.
